African, migrant and elderly woman

Today we show you part of the interview that El País did with Alphonsine Kitumua @alphonsinekitumua where she talks about the situation of migrant and elderly African women in Spain. Thanks to her volunteering in a small project in Madrid promoted by the Karibu Association. @asociacionkaribu

These are their responses to the situation of African, migrant and elderly women in Spain.

“We face loneliness, social and economic isolation, institutional powerlessness. That's why it seems that we don't exist, but we are here and we are many.'

«Being an older migrant woman means suffering double discrimination. Firstly, because they are migrants and have to adapt to the language and culture and face administrative obstacles and racism — like all newcomers, regardless of their age and sex. And second, for being older women and seeing how health deteriorates and the doors of the labor market close.

Thank you for your immense gratitude and dedication to helping those who need it most Sister Alphosine.
